Austria's ties to the Catholic Church run back through history and very, very, deep - and Graz was an important location for both the Church and the Empire. This street facing chapel is outside the Volkeskunde Museum - Folklore Museum - where we stopped in to see the display of vintage Christmas ornaments (wow, that was lovely). The rest of the museum is dedicated to the cultural life of Steiermark and makes a pretty shoddy attempt to explain customs like the Christmas Cockroach I showed you here.

The collection itself is really nice and it's a very well designed museum, but the text with the displays is pretty highbrow ethonological blah-de-blah. Plus, funnily enough, a lot of the stuff we saw in there I can see nearly any day just by leaving the house. If I thought I was in an anachronistic landscape before, this museum visit has confirmed it.
