Noon update: Everything is gesperrt. Closed. No going anywhere, okay?
This morning’s snow chaos report, delivered with those chewy pretzels I just can’t get enough of was as follows:
The road between here and Bad Aussee is closed.
The road between here and Grobming is closed.
The road between here and Krungl is not yet closed, but is projected to be later this morning.
The road between here and Trautenfels is not yet closed, but is on a watch for closure this afternoon.
So I ask J. (while looking out front at our neighbor putting chains on the car) am I allowed to drive anywhere? See, I was planning on going for a little ski. And he says yes, but, actually, no, not really, because the road might close once I’m on the other side of the mountain. “I guess if you get stuck, you can stay the night there. Take your cell phone, okay?” he says.
Um, okay, alternative plans are in order. Can I go to Irdning? “Yes, but only if you drive very slowly and very carefully. But there’s no trail because there’s too much snow.” Huh? What? This is new to me. No skiing because of too MUCH snow?
End result? If I want to go anywhere today, I have to go on foot. Or snowshoe. Dogsled would also be an acceptable method of transportation. Plus, I am to stay to well traveled main routes only because the snow is so heavy, a person could easily get lost.
What I’m saying is this: We have a LOT of snow. Also this: sometimes it is a good thing to have cable.
