After a week holed up with the ick, I vacated the house for the evening to go to dinner with the Jackson Five Minus One. (The Jackson Five are Bill, Terry, Nia, me, and up until his return to the old country, Julius. We’d been meeting most Friday nights to partake in the Jackson Street Crawl, an attempt to eat our way through Seattle’s International District.)
Last week was Bill’s birthday and we’ve been trying to get together for dinner for some time. Nia graciously hosted us. She has the best dinner party apartment.
Menu?
- Appetizers: Peppers stuffed with feta, sweet Kalamata olive spread, capers - with bread, of course
- Spinach, grapefruit, pickled onion, and avocado salad with curried toasted almonds and mojito dressing
- Spinach and ricotta lasagne with garlicky tomato sauce
- Hazelnut chocolate cake with hazelnut buttercream frosting and vanilla and coffee ice cream
Oh my. It was a delight. When you plan a potluck correctly, you end up with this kind of perfect menu. Yum.
There are three pictures here. And here’s something I’m wondering: I don’t have a very steady hand, though I do like to take pictures in low light without a flash. You get accidental things - like that picture of Nia as a ghost - that are really kind of cool. There’s something magic about the slight fuzziness of the long exposure that - for me - gives you the feeling of the moment better than a snap with the flash. I’m in to that. But it seems like they always come out really red. Oh, sure, I can adjust that in any old photo editor, no problem, but I’m wondering if anyone knows why it happens. ♦
Administrivia note: I’ve added a new category - “Lookit!” for posts that refer to photo albums. The old posts that refer to albums aren’t added to this category - yet.

I just realized when I saw your comment that I hadn’t seen any new posts of yours showing up in Bloglines. DUH. I’d forgotten to switch the link to subscribe to your new feed! Look at the new look! Jeezalou though…does WordPress want my firstborn, too? Quite a process to register just to leave a comment.
Love the ghost photo.

I’ve changed the comment settings - maybe it will be easier now? Let me know.

No issues posting my comment here, so whatever you did seems to have done the trick.
I just wanted to state that the dinner menu sounds fabulous. I’m a vegetarian, so the lack of meat, coupled with the gourmet twist, makes it extra appetizing for me.
I usually have Meijer or Gordon Food Service cater my gatherings, so I’m very impressed by your friend’s fare!
