Catholic Snow

Feet of Christ, hands of...

We had planned to go to one of two destinations today, either Salzburg or up to Oberoesterriech. Husband called at nine to tell me that a house in Oberoesterriech had collapsed under the weight of the snow on the roof and region was cut off. Salzburg was doable, but also in the direction of the storm.

We canceled and went to Mitterndorf for lunch instead. They’ve had four times the amount of snow that we had (though the storm has sneaked through the mountains and is hitting us now). I was hoping to get Indian food for lunch but no go, the place I wanted to go is open for lunch on the weekends, only. Instead, we went to the Gasthaus zur Post, a rather traditional Austrian place, and then walked in the churchyard.

I’m a sucker for the combination of snow and Catholic iconography. It makes for stunning visuals. More here.

  1. Egads. First, that does NOT get used enough.

And second, it’s not as much snow as they have north of us, can you imagine? The whole nation is currently embroiled in the War on Roof Collapse. It’s crazy. And dangerous, actually, really, really dangerous.
