National Soup Swap Day is January 23rd.

We’re now up to eight soup swaps, country wide! The folks at Almost Foodies have a reporter and a photographer coming to their soup swap, those lucky devils! We wish them the best of success in their new career as media darlings!

Keep up with soup swap news on the Soup Swap blog. And it’s not to late to host your own and be part of the movement.

File Under “What’s Up With That?”

Why is it that folks think that just because they have a bigass car with “features” they can keep driving like everything is all normal, when actually, the roads are crazy icy. People, people, people. For crying out loud, would you just slow down a little? It’s okay, you’ll get there and no one, including yourself, will be hurt.

Every time I go to a movie I’m shocked at how expensive it’s become. 7.50 for a bargain matinĂ©e? Is that really a bargain?

We have any number of brightly lit, not very charming yet cheap and delicious Asian restaurants in this town. They are all freezing cold inside. Explain.

I’m compiling a list of creatures that make me really nervous. On that list? Giant squid, bears, sharks, and baboons. I hope never to be too close to any of them.

The cable company. Need I say more?

I recently listened to Kafka’s Metamorphosis as an audio book. That is a crazy story. Crazy. Euro-husband thought I was nuts for lying in bed and listening to chapters of My Life as a Cockroach before I fell asleep.

Shopping for a car is really quite similar to flushing your money down the drain. Speaking of which…

Five things about Flushed Away (at the CHEAP theater)

  • Hello, there is no point in featuring Hugh Jackman if you can’t see him. His character could have been voiced by anyone.
  • It’s really very easy to make fun of the French. That doesn’t mean it’s not funny.
  • I have a lot of respect for an animator who can make a expressive character with only a mouth and two eyes on stalks to work with.
  • How come movies about sewers make the sewers look so, um, cosmetic? I mean, they’re full of waste, right?
  • The Brits and football (soccer). What’s up with that?

I think my Soup Swap buddy may have bagged on me…still hoping… We’ve given up seeing flicks in the theaters. I’ve discovered that in my ‘old’ age, I can pretty much wait to see most anything on Netflix. It’s too expensive! :)

I had to pay full price to see Flushed Away in German (where they call it “Flutsch und Weg”!) because the kids were dying to go and we missed cheap Tuesday. I suppose the singing slugs were sort of worth it but, yeah, those sewers were WAY too clean and it lost a lot of the British/French humour in translation.

Asian restaurants here, as well as being pretty bad, also tend to be boiling hot. There must be a connection somewhere.
