Summer in the Garden

Thistles and Lillies

The boys’ garden is place of wonder, truly. If you’d seen this scrappy patch of dirt with a few randomly placed badly chosen plants, you would not believe it could be transformed into the fabulous oasis it is today. The lilies are in bloom, yellow butterflies appear and disappear over the fence, and two little dachshunds will lick your toes if you insist on wandering around out there barefoot.

Larry is my garden coach – it’s his advice that saved my tomato plants – and he’ll be helping me next spring should I finally make up my mind about the backyard. Patio or deck? Raised beds or as is? Save the lawn or tell it all goodbye? If my garden is ever half as splendid as his, it will be better than I deserve. A few pics here.
