A Beautiful Day

Duwamish Downtown

I did the bike/bus combo to meet my friend L. at Elliot Bay Books for coffee. It was warmer than expected and truly, a beautiful morning to be out and about on the bike. The ride to/from West Seattle across the Duwamish Slough is my favorite thing about biking into downtown.

One: A major airlines offered to comp my flights for my upcoming trip. We talked for a little while about how that would work. The airlines would provide free flights if I agreed to give them an exclusive listing as the carrier. I said I could not do that. Having successfully navigated the world of transportation and accommodation with regards to our upcoming adventure, I am turning myself to the next scheduling dilemma: how to spend our days.

Stormy Morning, Lincoln Park

Last year around this time there were huge storms that took down trees and took out power – some neighborhoods were off the grid for a week or more. The winds started yesterday afternoon and around 6pm, I had to go on a little hunt to find my garbage can, which the wind had wedged in my neighbors’ driveway between their overturned (empty) recycling bin and their own cans. I also had to round up a number of stray objects from the yar – the watering can, a bucket, the lid to the BBQ… all had gone wandering in the 47mph winds.… continued…

Fish Wednesday, Rockfish Files Edition

When you really devote yourself to eating sustainable seafood, you end up in some tight corners. Case in point: I was feeling pretty okay as I tossed the Canadian Rockfish fillet in my basket, but when I got home and looked up the fish on my favorite source, I realized it was, again, not that simple. Do I know if my Rockfish is trawl caught or line caught? I have no idea. None. Nada. Dammit. I didn’t realize this was an issue, even, I thought that the fish on hand was okay.… continued…
