The thing about being an adventurous cook is that sometimes you miss the mark. You read a recipe and it sounds okay, and you trust it because cookbooks have a certain amount of credibility to them. I should know better, after the *** efffing ***** book that I helped out as a test chef on: just because it’s published doesn’t mean it’s any good.
This dish was a total dud at our house. In principal, it should have been okay. I’m partial to a coconut milk curry and the ingredients weren’t so bizarre, but it was a complete and utter failure. I didn’t expect it to win over Mr. NEV, but I did think I’d like it, and sometimes, he’s more amenable to new food than I give him credit for. Not this time, and rightfully so.
Bleh, smeh, meh, eh, and other nonplussed expressions ending in eh. I wish I had something yummy for dessert to make up for the disappointment.

Shucks, five pounds of snapper down the drain? Too bad! Did you really use fiddlehead ferns? I liked the recipe quote about hard work better than flying but really, I’d rather be able to fly!
We didn’t do the whole five pounds, there are only two of us, so there was very little waste. I had the good sense to cut the recipe down before ruining it. 🙂
Just curious. What was wrong with the recipe? I looked at it and it sure sounded good to me. Was it the tamarind paste?
The coconut was too heavy and sweet, it overpowered all the other flavors. The sauce ended up being kind of gummy, ewwww, it was just, well, unappealing.
Oh, and we used kale, not fiddleheads coz we had kale.
