No Travelblogging Panel at BlogHer ‘08
March 29, 2008 – 5:13 pm | by nerd's eye view“Steeeerike TWO!”
If you felt a tiny twinge across the travelsphere today, it might be because my proposed travelblogging panel for BlogHer ‘08 didn’t exactly win approval. This particular rejection comes with a consolation prize - there will be a travel session of some flavor, just not the flavor I’d proposed. (Okay, maybe that twinge was another civil right crumbling, but there’s so much of that going on that I’ll bet you’ve got calluses by now.)
Instead of a lively discussion about travel blogging with award winner Sheila [Family Travel and other publications], Mary Jo [Fly Away Cafe, B5 networks travel editor], Beth [Wanderlust and Lipstick, travel publisher and blogger], and Suzanne [CUSS, travel book about NYC coming out this year] there will be a “Meet the Editor” session with Q&A about travelblogging led by, um, me. [Crickets chirping.]
This is a little disappointing coming on the heels of SxSW’s decision to go with a panel about pet blogging instead of travel. Yes, I’m still annoyed by that and no, I don’t hate your dog/cat/ferret/hamster/armadillo. BlogHer did recognize that this is a topic lots of us want to talk about, so I’m really pleased that there’s some kind of forum for conversation.
I don’t have information yet about how long the session will be and if there’s a recommended format. I’m hoping for a chance to discuss those burning questions about travelblogging, issues like, “How am I supposed to get back to Thailand on $127.92 of Google Adsense income?!” and “Hello, National Geographic, why aren’t you paying attention to me?!” and “How does Samantha Brown always have such cute hair?!”[See below for answers.]
Okay, seriously. I do hope that if you plan to attend BlogHer, you’ll find it worthwhile to drop in and talk travelblogging with others who are devoted to this topic. Even though I don’t have the benefit of a full fledged panel, I’ll make every effort to find credible answers to your questions about my corner of blogville. In fact, if you already know what you’d ask a travel panel, you could ask me, right now, and I could do some homework before the conference to see what I turn up.
Answers:
- You’re not. Get a “day job” like the rest of us.
- Ho ho! Are you sure they’re not?
- She has a HUGE posse.
See you in San Francisco?

I scrolled up 3 times, just to check that I had read correctly before submitting this comment.

I’m Paul from Canada, a retired Author. I’ve only been at this about 4
months now, and I’ve hit the ground running. I’m only really getting around
to visiting all the forums now. I still have a lot to learn but I’m getting
there.
All the best,
Paul

It seems like us travel bloggers are the Rodney Dangerfield of blogging — we just don’t get no respect!
