Micro Travel Writing Workshop with Angela Nickerson

Angela Nickerson, author of A Journey into Michelangelo’s Rome , is on a virtual book tour. One of her stops is right here at Nerd’s Eye View. Rather than your usual book review (that will come when I’ve finished the book), Angela’s agreed to do a “Micro Travel Writing Workshop” with us.

Here’s the deal. You write a 200 word (or less) post following the prompt below. Include a photo as per the guidelines. When you’re done, drop a link to your post in the comments. I’ll compile them and Angela will do a short critique of each participant’s post. Once that’s done, I’ll post the entire workshop back here on Nerd’s Eye View.

Here’s the writing prompt:

Michelangelo was just one of the thousands of architects, artists and laborers who molded and shaped St. Peter’s Basilica over two centuries. Every building, grand or humble, has a story and is the product of human hands working together. Choose one of your photographs of a building — large, small, monumental, inconsequential — and in 200 words or less, tell the building’s story.

You’ve got a week to get your post written and in the comments – the deadline is April 14th. After that, I’ll be closing comments on this post. And hey, I’m going to be the enforcer on that word count thing. 200 words, tops, comrades, not one word more. Why? Because word counts are real requirements out there in the world and learning to write for them is a challenge that we should all be able to tackle.

I’m excited that Angela has agreed to give us her time to workshop our travel writing! Now, give it your best shot. I can’t wait to see what you’ll do.
