- January: We froze our butts off in British Columbia. But oh, I love to travel in BC and the freezing fog made for pretty pictures from the ferry.
- February: My mother-in-law and her travel buddy came to town. We took them to the Washington Coast, a place I never tire of. In spite of the snow on the ground, we had surprisingly cooperative weather. If I’m not busy, I will take you out there when you come visit.
I’ve been doing a bunch of traveling — yay — and then I got nailed with a very bad cold — boo — so I never did get a Nerd’s Eye View traveler’s gift guide up this year. In the past, my gift guides have included stuff that I think is essential for travel, stuff I already have and wouldn’t leave home without. It’s too late for that now, but hey, there’s still a few more shopping days until my birthday.… continued…
For the last three weeks, I’ve been in kind of a daze. We raised the 13k we needed to build a school in Cambodia in the first week of Passports with Purpose. Working with bloggers, sponsors, PR folks, and a whole network of people that love to travel, we raised enough money to build a school in seven days! Then, in the two weeks that followed, we raised enough to give the kids that will attend the school a kitchen garden, a school nurse, and a clean water supply.… continued…
There are twenty of them, total, taking up the better portion of the back of the bus. It’s a luxury bus, with train style seating, rows of two seats facing each other across a table with cup holders. They’re chattering away in Spanish, of course. The guide parks me next to the only other gringo at the back and she’s relieved — she speaks no Spanish and now, she’s got someone to talk to.
First, the patriarch introduces himself, insists on shaking my hand, and then, points to his cheek for a kiss.… continued…
