@Sophia: I have never,in all my years of camping, experienced such noisy campers. Ever. I don't know what the deal was, if it was high season, or if summer makes Canadians excessively boisterous or WHAT, but never, ever in my LIFE have have I been so thwarted. My advice? Wait until after school starts.

Oh thank goodness for the ending of this post!. I am giving my husband a tent for his 50th birthday and plan to launch a new era of camping for us (we never have), and I was just about to run back to the store and return it. But the end, that sounds just fine.

I, too, am sensitive to noise. It's hard living 100 yards away from frat-boy central and above someone with a gigantic subwoofer. I guess when partiers go on vacation, they take the party with them. More's the pity.

I really don't mean to rub it in, but it was REALLY quiet on Saturday on Vashon @ Camp Burton. That is, after all the uke-ers went to bed around midnight. I guess we took the party with us too.

Oh, Pam ... I know of what you speak. One Thanksgiving I thought I'd get a way from it all in Big Sur at my favorite State Park for four days. It was the craziest camping trip I'd ever taken. What I thought was going to be an empty, quiet, campground was full of families in RVs, gun-toting teenagers, kids running around getting into everyone else's stuff, and tvs and music blaring everywhere. I often wonder if it's possible to get away anymore ... !!!

Silence is one of my favorite things, and when I find it, I bathe in it, because I know it will be awhile before it's found again.
