Fountain, Seattle Center
Family Dogs, 1968

If I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a thousand times, take the camera with you when you leave the house. Man, what a great day it was.

Christmas Cracker

I just love this picture of my friend Terry from Xmas Eve. Today, I (mostly) followed the steps in the antiquing tutorial up on Digital Photography School and now, I might love it even more.

And oh, heh, yeah, it IS my birthday. Thanks for the well wishes. See you at the party?

Garden Angel Graffiti Critters

It’s still hopelessly gray out, but there’s plenty to see. The garden angel on 17th, wears different accessories for every season. And graffiti critters hide around the corner from a scary bear. Okay, not so scary. Cute, really.

Rainier Sunset

Looking down the alley towards the south from my Seattle bedroom.

That big old volcano in the distance is Mount Rainier and yes, you really can see it from my house. The best view is from the shower, but setting up the tripod in the bathtub is really awkward.

I’m messing around with high ISOs and low light. I get a lot of noise on the images as a result, but I think I kind of like it.

Kitchen Still LIfe

Some time back I bought a tripid for five bucks at a garage sale. It’s quite a good one, it’s the Digi719B from Manfrotto (link goes to updated model). The head is a little odd and I scared the daylights out of myself when I unscrewed it too much and it dropped right off on the floor, but the grippy clamps for the legs hold nice and tight and, hey, did I mention, I paid five bucks for it at a garage sale?

So I’ve been messing around with the ISO on my camera - I finally figured out how to change it without having to fish around for the manual - and I’ve been taking some longer exposures in the low daylight of my kitchen. (Stupid winter.) I don’t have a steady hand, so the combination of the tripod and the adjustable ISO is making it possible to get some nice details.

Goal? Become handy with the ISO setting and the tripod because it will give me a bigger range of possibilites for pics. I’m pretty sure I’m not going to develop a steadier hand, but if I get the hang of the other stuff, I can compensate.

Or, How you gonna go back to ol’ Paree once you’ve been down on the farm?

ScarecrowLisa asked me if I’d like to tag along with her and Seth to visit the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm they support She reckoned it was a good place for a person like me to wander around with a camera.

Indeed, Sharon’s Moonshadow Farm is a delightful place, with a perfect little farmhouse, a few outbuildings, and, at this time of year, stuff growing madly all over the place. There were 98 chickens, all with names, two donkeys, Chico and Cinquo de Mayo, a couple of goats, some geese that looked like they were wearing debutate dresses, a confused pea-chick, a bunny, some bees, at least two garden snakes, a mess o’ peacocks, here a duck there a duck everywhere a duck duck…

There was a little drama involving a donkey and a gate that wasn’t closed. But other than that, it was a delightful morning on the farm. In two weeks Sharon will be pulling the first honey from the hives. If I’m able to go, I’d really like to see how that works.

  • To learn why buying your produce from CSA is a good thing to do, go to Food Routes.
  • For the CSA that I use (selected for their flexibility) go to Full Circle Farms.
  • For pics of Sharon’s beautiful Moonshadow farm, go here.
