I get to do a lot of amazing things as an independent blogger. Just two weeks I ago I attended a beautiful event at the Four Seasons in Santa Barbara. I had fancy cocktails and stayed in a room where the posted rack rate was, oh, it’s too embarrassing to say. There are just about 36 hours left in the Passports with Purpose raffle and wow, are we amazed! We punched through the 6000 dollar mark yesterday. As cofounder Debbie said, “That’s a lot of chicks, ducks, and bees!” I got curious about how many chicks, ducks, or bees, that would be exactly, though I decided to think in llamas because, well, I am irrationally fond of llama. It’s 40 llamas! Or, it’s 50 sheep, a whole freakin’ flock, or, speaking in flocks, it’s 300 flocks of chicks.… continued…
When I was a bit less webby, a bit more analog, I made a lot more art. You may not know it because of my nerd cred, but I went to art school. Sure, I make my living in the land of digital, but the visual is where I come from. Mostly, I do photo work and write, but I was a painter, through and through, until my decision to buy a home made me give up my studio space.… continued…

Nothing has quite cracked me open the way our trip to Cambodia earlier this year did. It wasn’t just the history, it was the present, too – the combination of such intense damage and such warm spirits.
Imagine this. We walk into a shop selling beautiful hand beaded crafts and are greeting with a hello that’s like singing and radiant smiles. But the song and the light aren’t at eye level.… continued…
