I get to do a lot of amazing things as an independent blogger. Just two weeks I ago I attended a beautiful event at the Four Seasons in Santa Barbara. I had fancy cocktails and stayed in a room where the posted rack rate was, oh, it’s too embarrassing to say. I enjoy the things I get to do tremendously, and while most of the time I feel unbelievably lucky, I also suffer, a little, from the noise of being active in the blogging community.… continued…
If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you know that I LOVE the ukulele. I’m a barely adequate musician, but it’s not just about the music, it’s that the uke is really fun. Crazy fun. And I love the people I’ve met while playing my uke. I love talking about the uke, I love watching silly videos on YouTube that feature the uke, I love the ukulele.

I don’t really expect you to remember this, but I pretty much sobbed my way across Cambodia. Julius had to take my hand and lead me to sit on a quiet bench somewhere, or in a sheltered cafe, or sometimes, I just sat on the bus, staring out the window while trying to pull myself together. Phnom Pehn was the worst, we couldn’t visit a historical site or a store staffed by land mine victims or go for a drink anywhere but the Foreign Correspondents Club without me just falling apart.… continued…
It probably sounds like Debbie, Michelle, Beth, and yours truly do little but sit around in each others kitchens eating excellent Seattle treats and washing them down with freshy brewed java or some nice green tea. I suppose there’s some truth in that, but the treats are fuel for big ideas and oh, we have them in spades. There are just about 36 hours left in the Passports with Purpose raffle and wow, are we amazed! We punched through the 6000 dollar mark yesterday. As cofounder Debbie said, “That’s a lot of chicks, ducks, and bees!” I got curious about how many chicks, ducks, or bees, that would be exactly, though I decided to think in llamas because, well, I am irrationally fond of llama. It’s 40 llamas! Or, it’s 50 sheep, a whole freakin’ flock, or, speaking in flocks, it’s 300 flocks of chicks.… continued…
