I’ve got a terrific new toy, the Olympus Stylus Tough-8000. It’s a 12mp pocket camera, a little tiny thing that, well, it fits in my pocket. I haven’t ditched Nikon D200 SLR by any means, but this little baby does some stuff that my Nikon won’t. It shoots video and, more importantly, goes underwater. I’ve got just enough time to learn how to use it properly — I’m off to Hawaii and look out, fish, I am taking your pictures, I don’t care if you have a mouth full of coral or look lumpy in that swimsuit, you are ending up on Flickr.… continued…
Or: I didn’t go to Mexico and all you get is this lousy… no, wait, that’s not lousy at all. What you get for my not going to Mexico is a FLiP cam, which, apparently everyone but me has. Oh, and you get some branded swag too; I suppose you could dress yourself in that stuff and pretend that you are on the trip to Mexico that I did not go on.

My friend K. and I have had several successful photo excursion days. We get in the car and head out to …somewhere, not anywhere specific, to shoot photos of… something, nothing in particular. K. is a fine photographer and has been doing some nice work with a Lens Baby on his Nikon, I was psyched to try it out. I achieved very mixed results – my broader landscape shots are totally uninteresting, most of the tighter, smaller shots have no good focal point, many are overexposed as I was completely flummoxed by the metering.… continued…
