I’m in a HomeAway sponsored vacation rental while in NYC. FYI.
I like vacation rentals because they allow me to migrate more easily into the fantasy that the place I’m visiting is actually my home. I can carry a bag of groceries up three flights to my temporary flat. I can have a neighborhood where people live, where bicycles are locked up on back balconies and my window looks not into an impersonal wall of hotel rooms, but into other apartments where dishes pile up on counters and conversations about work leak out into the weird narrow spaces between buildings.… continued…
It’s just about a month now since we rolled back in to Seattle. The Routan was unloaded and returned to VW’s fleet supplier pronto, but there’s still a pile of REI gear that I have to ship back along with a few other odds and ends. And part of my brain, or maybe it’s my heart, is still leaning back towards the Hi-Line, that northern Montana strip of road punctuated by old grain elevators and barbed wire fences and gas stations where time stopped in 1967.… continued…
Do people keep telling you that video is the “new thing for your blog!”? Yeah, they keep telling us that too. I have personally been terrified to head down that path, fearing that I will be lured in to a false sense of confidence about the ease of producing decent short video and then, I will waste countless hours trying to unravel the tools and processes of video editing. No way, I said, no way, repeatedly quoting a speaker I heard at a blogging conference: “If you’re going to do video, do it well.”
