I’ve only seen the Aurora Borealis once. I was flying home from Alaska and I looked out the window of the riveted dual prop plane to see green and yellow ribbons of light dancing in the sky. I still feel like I was imagining it. Given that it was nearly 20 years ago, I’m not surprised that’s how it feels in memory. I’d like to see the aurora again someday — I’ve been up to Alaska half a dozen times, and to the Yukon once in February, and I still haven’t had a second look at it.<\/p>\n

It came to us, though, here in the lower 48. My friend Aaron Green <\/a>went out to Moss Lake in search of dark skies and had fair success at seeing the light show. He posted this glorious photo to Facebook and when I asked if I could share it with you all, he gave the okay. It’s about an hour’s drive to Moss Lake from Seattle but he says it’s not actually a recommended viewing spot, what with the park rangers locking the gates at night.<\/p>\n
