I heard Governor Ann Richards speak – it was maybe two or three years ago. She was funny and scathing and sharp as a tack. Two things she spoke about still stand out in my memory.<\/p>\n
She told a story about getting through airport securty while wearing a body suit with snaps in the crotch. The snaps had set off the metal detectors and security was having a cow. She was late for her flight and in, well, kind of a hurry, but security wasn’t done with her. They wanted to take her off somewhere for special screening, but she wasn’t having any. “I will take my pants off right here and now. Right. Here.” They let her go.<\/p>\n
She also talked about the president’s single mindedness. “You could ask George Bush the time of day and he’d say, “Saddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction.””<\/p>\n
Her scathing wit and whip smart intelligence will be missed. We are better for having had her in our government and in our country. She was a grand woman and an admirable character. I wanted HER <\/em>to be the governor of Texas that became president.<\/p>\n
