\"Street<\/a>The city is dressed for show in gold and scarlet and plum. That is reason enough to head out on the tree lined avenues that cross the neighborhoods.<\/p>\n

But it’s also market day in Ballard. Harvest goods are piled on on folding tables, friendly red-cheeked farmers and other folks who make yummy things – cheese, preserves, breads – are standing outside in the bright fall light handing out free samples and working the crowd. A musician sat on an upended crate playing a shiny steel guitar (oooh, I want a resonater uke!) and singing the blues, though there was little to be blue about. The market smells like flowers and fresh dirt and butter, of all things, because there’s a crepe stand where a skilled cook will produce a perfect paper thin pancake before your very eyes.<\/p>\n

\"Carrots\"<\/a>We started with coffee and treats, then wandered the market. After that, we stopped in the music store, and then, went to Archie McPhee’s<\/a>. Sometimes, you need a rubber duck. Right now.<\/p>\n

All in all a beautiful morning.<\/p>\n
