It is a lot of work to plan a big party, but if you are a lucky person (and that I am!) and have friends and family to help out, you can do it with nary a hitch. The folks who showed up early helped set up chairs and tables. A vast array of cake appeared not only from our kitchen, but from the kitchens and nearby bakeries of friends and family. My brother tended to the slicing. Euro-husband popped the champagne. Uke playing friends sat in the corner and played Ukulele Lady and Blue Skies and Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Happy Birthday – twice, once for me, once for my mom. Folks even cleared off exactly on time – tricky when you’re in a rented facility – and latecomers were big help in the cleanup. The gal from the city complimented us on our excellent cleanup and organization. Even the weather cooperated, giving us a much needed break in the wind and rain for the evening – the storm only started to pick up again once we were back home in my apartment.<\/p>\n

To everyone who was there, I can’t say thanks enough, for the prezzies, the music, the help, and the good company. And if you weren’t there, I understand and please know that you were missed, not in a “Dammit, they said they were coming” sort of way but in a “This would be even more fun if you were here, but I get it” sort of way.<\/p>\n

What a swell party. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
