That lemon grass body scrub? Oh my.<\/li>\n<li>Best meal: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chefmavro.com\/\">Chef Mavro<\/a> in Honolulu. Fireworks for the mouth. Wow.<\/li>\n<li>Best smoothie: A tie! The hippies on the road to Hana or the Vietnamese guy in the Honolulu Chinatown market.<\/li>\n<li>Best bathrooms: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.molokairanch.com\/\">Molokai Ranch<\/a>. Deep claw foot tubs and big showers, nice fixtures. Not fancy or overdone, just well thought out.<\/li>\n<li>Best local advice: The channel crossing can be really rough between Maui and Molokai or Lanai. If you get seasick, fly.<\/li>\n<li>Best lunch: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grindscafe.net\/\">Grinds<\/a>, out there on the highway towards Eleele. Homemade bread for the sandwiches, tasty baked goods, real food. Honorable mention to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kalaheo.com\/\">Kalaheo Cafe<\/a>, also on Kauai. Oh, yeah, and <a href=\"http:\/\/islandlavajavakona.com\/\">Lava Java<\/a> in Kona.<\/li>\n<li>Best place to not buy a ukulele: (No really, you should buy one.) A tie! The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.konaweb.com\/ukegallery\/\">Ukulele Gallery<\/a> in Holualoa or Scotty&#8217;s Music on Kauai.<\/li>\n<li>Best uke I did not buy: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kanileaukulele.com\/\">Kanile&#8217;a<\/a>. Wow, these are gorgeous, have great action, and sound incredible. (Hint, hint, my birthday is coming.)<\/li>\n<li>Best night out: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slackkey.com\/\">The Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key<\/a>. The locations and artists change, but if you&#8217;re in the islands, catch a show. We saw the always wonderful Led Ka&#8217;apana &#8211; it&#8217;s awesome to hear the sound of slack key in an open-sided tent with the sound of the rain and the ocean for backup.<\/li>\n<li>Best shuttle driver:  David, who drives the Lanai shuttle. Full of useful information, funny as hell.<\/li>\n<li>Best shopping for souvenirs: Kitchy, ovedone, made outside Hawaii, fabulous. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hilohattie.com\/\">Hilo Hattie&#8217;s<\/a>. Hang loose, cousin.<\/li>\n<li>Best all in one experience: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.konavillage.com\/\">Kona Village Resort<\/a>. Gorgeous location, comfortable and charming individual grass shack inspired &#8220;cabins&#8221;, good food, helpful staff, did I mention the location? Yeah, it&#8217;s expensive, but if you can afford it you will not be disappointed.<\/li>\n<li>Best ice cream: Dave&#8217;s  &#8211; we got ours at the <a href=\"http:\/\/gohawaii.about.com\/library\/gallery\/blsouth_shore_molokai_45.htm\">Kamo&#8217;i Snack-n-Go on Molokai<\/a>, but you can get it in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaiibid.com\/davesicecream\/\">couple of different places<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Best lookout:  Kalalau Viewpoint &#8211; all the way at the end of the road past Waimea Canyon, Kauai.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[tags]Hawaii[\/tags]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Best products: Luana Spa in Hana.
