Another Austrian Winter comes to a close

This is Tina and Caroline and an enormous black dog. Tina is Alex’s mom, Alex being my (now) ukulele playing neighbor. Caroline is their high school exchange student from Maine. Yesterday, Tina put the Americans in her car and off we went to the Toplitzsee. The Toplitzsee is the legendary home of a buried Nazi fortune – stolen treasure, as it were. We were there looking for cake, not for Nazi gold, though we did not find it as the very charming little gasthaus is closed on Wednesdays. No matter, we had a delightful walk and then we drove in to Bad Aussee where we did find cake. It was a very nice send off from this family that I have spent so much time with this winter.

It has been an incredible season. I’m going to say this one time only: I think I might actually miss Austria once we’re back in the States.

In case you’re just getting here, here are a few highlights.

This doesn’t include the incredible skiing, the excellent trip we had to Germany, the delights of Christmas in Austria, the new and old friends we met from the US Snowshoe Racing team, and so many other things. It’s all in the archives and sometimes it’s not. For example, not in the archives? The day before yesterday husband showed up around noon with an ice cream bar, then zipped off back to work. And oh my god, the testers at Sony. So funny. Whew.

Anyhow, The winter has just blown by. I can’t believe it’s spring already.

See you in Seattle, shortly. Roll ’em.
