Spring in the Skagit Valley

Skagit Valley Daffodils

The tulip fields are about to bust out in an absolute riot of color. We got to see some stunning oranges and reds and the daffodils, good lord, their quantities are spectacular, but in a few days it is going to be total insanity on the eyes. If you can swing it, play hooky on Monday the 20th — Nerd’s Eye View says it’s okay! — and rush up there.  Even better if you get up at crack of dawn because I think it must be some kind of magic to watch the light come up in the middle of all that crazy color.

Our pictures, just a few, are here. The Skagit Tulip Festival website is here. If you head in to La Conner for lunch, sure the folks at the Waterfront Cafe are awfully nice and the food is fresh, but I suspect you might find a more interesting bite to eat elsewhere. In case you’re wondering about the sign that says  “Immodest Ice Cream Cones”  on the way to the farm stand outside Conway, rest assured that there is nothing undressed about them, they are just obscenely huge. Also, the Dairy Delight at the south end of Mt. Vernon has, in the past, been one of my favorite drive-in spots for onion rings and milkshakes. It’s still open, but we were all way to full to stop.
