Thanks for your interest in Nerd’s Eye View! I am genuinely flattered that you want to reach my readers and work with me. My readers are smart, loyal, international, exceptionally good looking, and they are curious about the world.
Do you want to buy an ad or place a sponsored post? Email me for prices.
Here’s the other stuff you need to know:
- Ads are clearly ads. I don’t do inline text ads or disguise ads as something else.
- I haven’t had to make this call, but you can be sure I’ll decline ads for sex tourism, weapons, tobacco, napalm, the far right, and anything else I find icky.
- My social media feeds aren’t for sale. I won’t post to Facebook or Twitter about your product or service for pay. I won’t comment for pay. If I recommend something via social, you can bet it’s because I genuinely find it’s worthwhile.
- Any other form of advertising will be labeled as advertising. This means sponsored content, native advertising, advertorial, whatever it’s called, you know what I’m talking about — paid placement will be labeled “advertising” so the reader knows up front that it’s an ad.
Do you want to guest post?
Are you sure you’re not actually looking to buy an ad? Because nine times out of ten, the guest post inquiries I get are seeking advertorial or SEO juice. Sorry, no. You’ll need to buy an ad. Still mean it about a guest post? Read on…
I don’t run lists, travel tips, factoids, how to articles, third party reviews, promotional content… my guest posts are travel stories only. I actually love sharing your stories with my readers, so get touch and we’ll talk.
Do you want me to write for you?
Crabby part first: Under almost no circumstances will I write for free. There are a few cases — when it’s a very good cause that benefits an underprivileged population, uh… there’s a few more, a guest post for your publication that offers me exposure is not one of them. A-hem.
Okay, that’s out of the way. I’m happy to send clips, though you can also click through the logos on the sidebar to find previous published work. I’m always always always looking for new markets and happy to hear about yours. Email me, please.
Do you want me to cover your product?
I like clever, genuinely useful travel gear and gadgets that make travel easier. I’ve reviewed gear for a handful of publishers on and off for nearly a decade, so I know what makes good gear and I’m happy to share that stuff with my readers.
I do not cover: apps, websites, services, contests, travel deals, trends. I have 15 years in website and software design and usability, so if you’re interested in feedback on a software driven project, contact me for my consulting rates.
Do you want to invite me on your press trip?
I’m grateful for the invitations and I’ve been able to do amazing things and write good stories. I won a Solas Best Travel Writing Award for work I did while on a sponsored trip. And I’ve published work from press trips in a number of different publications, print and online. There are all kinds of possibilities, I’m excited to hear bout what you’ve got in mind… but a few things:
I’m a sucker for a great destination, but I’m a much more prolific and productive writer when traveling solo or as a civilian. I’ve been booked twice on tours by operators as the only press in the group, and I loved traveling like any paid customer with no special services. I don’t do a lot of group press trips, especially those targeted exclusively at social media because I like my stories to stand apart from the noise. That makes me a bad fit for most “social buzz” campaigns, but gives me a better shot at selling a feature, which is always my goal.
I avoid promising specific content in advance. I know, you want to see the property, the new attraction, whatever, get ink, I know. On the whole, I want that too. But I reserve the right to hate the hotel, the event, the dinner, the weather, the people, the trip. I reserve the right to have a bad time. I also don’t promise coverage because unless it’s exclusively for this blog, I don’t hold the key — my editors do and it’s their call. I will never guarantee you coverage in a publication I do not edit. Stories get cancelled (it’s happened), content gets cut (it’s happened), editors get fired (you guessed it), and any number of circumstances can kill your coverage.
That’s just so everything is on the level. I’d love to hear from you.
Do you want to know my ethics policy?
Readers will always know if I’m traveling on someone else’s dime or reviewing items I’ve received for free. I will publish the asking price for anything I’m given to review. If I take pay for editorial (and to this day, I have not) it will be disclosed at the very top of the post — readers will understand immediately that I was paid to write what they are reading. In fact, that’s the language I’ll use — “I was paid by [company name] to write about [subject matter].” I will revise editorial at the request of a host or sponsor for fact only, not for matters of opinion. If you’re suggesting things you don’t want me to tell my readers about, I don’t want any part of it. In all matters, I will strive to represent my readers first and foremost.
I do not buy Facebook or Twitter followers and those feeds are not for sale. Anything I post to my social channels is posted there because I genuinely find it interesting or enjoyable. I do not sell email addresses, post paid comments, or participate in sharing schemes. Anything on this blog that is not 100% organic is labeled as such.
I’m an honest, candid, and transparent source for information about travel and I plan to stay that way.
