Funding for The Whitehorse Exit

When I sat down to write this story as a screenplay, I had no idea how fast everything would come together. I wrote the screenplay almost as an afterthought. Don’t get me wrong, I was committed to doing good work, but I thought the intent was to provide Amy (screenwriting partner on my book, producer) with an example of other stuff I’ve written. It was supposed to help her shop the work we did to make my book into a screenplay. That’s all.

I didn’t expect to bag any awards, I’m still a novice, but I got three. I didn’t expect Rocco (director) and Mike (cinematographer) to fall in love with the story and I certainly didn’t expect them to say, “Let’s make this. Now.” But that’s what happened. I didn’t expect, when I talked to people about it, they’d say “Shut up and take my money,” but here we are. We spent three days shooting in May. It was thrilling to see my story come to life.

Thanks to everyone’s generosity; now we’re in post. But we have more work to do: editing and sound and credits and probably other things I don’t know about yet. All that stuff costs money too. Our editing deadline is September 5th when we have to be done if we want to enter the film at Sundance. Which we do.

Want to throw cash at us? Well please and thank you so much. Real talk, there’s nothing in for you but a hearty thank you and your name in the credits. And our undying gratitude because we could not have done this alone. Also, no, what you can contribute is not too small. I made a supermarket run to buy a 30-dollar bottle of wine for someone who helped us out so that 30-dollar donation mattered. More is more but less is not less, it all adds up.

  • Here’s a deck to give you a peek at what the film is about.
  • Here’s the production company and here’s the producer.
  • Last but not least, here’s how to send money. It goes to a designated account for this film.

    • Venmo: They take a cut but it works.

What a ride. OMG, thank you.
